ARTISTS STATEMENT: Repeated layers of only two colors reduce the information the viewer receives while the burnished paint allows light to penetrate and reveal the pure nature of the oil in monochrome. The black paintings further reduce the information and require additional external light to produce luminosity necessary for the viewer to connect the dots. In the words of James Joyce, I ask the viewer to “Shut your eyes and see”. |
